Bien's CT Scan

In preparation for Bien's upcoming liver transplantation in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, all his laboratory results were shipped for assessment. So far, his results are okay except that Dr. Chen found out that he now has Pulmonary Consolidation.

Pulmonary Consolidation is

a region of (normally compressible) lung tissue that has filled with liquid, a condition marked by induration (swelling or hardening of normally soft tissue) of a normally aerated lung. It is considered a radiologic sign. Consolidation occurs through accumulation of inflammatory cellular exudate in the alveoli and adjoining ducts. Simply, it is defined as alveolar space that contains liquid instead of gas. The fluid can be pulmonary edema, inflammatory exudate, pus, inhaled water, or blood (from bronchial tree or hemorrhage from a pulmonary artery). It is clinically important in pneumonia: the signs of lobar pneumonia are characteristic and clinically referred to as consolidation.

Bien will be treated of his Pulmonary Consolidation as soon as he arrives in Taiwan. He should be clear of any other illnesses before the doctors perform the transplant.
As of the moment, they are now preparing documents for their trip to Taiwan most probably towards the end of August. If things work out as planned, transplant will be around the first half of September.

Let us keep praying for baby Bien.

Little Acts of Kindness: Sharon Kasama Mo, Kapatid

For those who were unable to watch last July 30 episode of Sharon Kasama Mo, Kapatid, it featured the story of Mang Roger and Bien Louis.

Mang Roger is an iconic figure in San Beda. He is a magbabalot. But he is not an ordinary magbabalot. He is famous in San Beda not only because of his balot and chicharon. He is a man who spreads happiness and inspires students as well as faculty members in San Beda.

Another story is about baby Bien's call for help for his liver transplantation fundraising campaign. Witness how Sharon Kasama Mo, Kapatid has given Bien a FIGHTING CHANCE.

Bien Louis on Sharon Kasama Mo, Kapatid

At 10 months old now, Bien's physical feature has changed a lot. His stomach is noticeably bigger because of his biliary atresia. He has also lost weight. His arms and legs are so thin. He cries a lot. The fear of him having complications gives his parents sleepless nights.

It is ideal that Bien undergo liver transplant before he reach the age of 1. With only two months to go, they need a miracle to raise the funds needed for his operation.

The family never stopped praying and believing.

Putting social network into good use, Bien's family started the fundraising campaign via twitter. God loves Bien so much he sent an angel -- Ms Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan. Ms Sharon was one of the few people who retweeted Bien's appeal for help. She even requested her media friends to please feature Bien's story in their column. Mr Bayani San Diego Jr immediately respond to Ms Sharon's call. He wrote an article on Philippine Daily Inquirer "Mega's Wish".

Despite all the efforts by the family to raise money, there is still not enough to pay for the operation. But, they did not lose hope. Then one afternoon, a staff from Sharon Kasama Mo, Kapatid contacted Bien's parents.

Bien was featured in their episode this afternoon "Little Acts of Kindness". A lot of people were touched with Bien's story.

Inspired by the coin cans that Bien's dad placed on some establishments at SM Taytay, the audience passed around Bien's coin can.

There is also a MEGAcan at the studio for Baby Bien which they aim to fill with bills and coins.

Mr. Manny V Pangilinan (MVP), Chairman of TV5, pledged P1,000,000. Two very good friends of Ms. Sharon who preferred to be anonymous also donated $20,000 and $10,000.

Ms Sharon also ordered A Gift of Life t-shirts for her fans and staff.

Lab Tests and More Lab Tests

In preparation for my liver transplant in Taiwan, I need to go through various laboratory tests to check that everything will work out fine. We will be sending the results to Taiwan for their evaluation.

Me and my mom still need to have the Liver CT-Angiogram that will cost P35,000 each. Hopefully, more help will come our way because my fund gets depleted because of the routine lab tests, maintenance medicines and hospital confinements.

Glad we're done with these tests:

Laboratory Tests:

 Hepa Profile
  • HBsAg
  • anti-HBs
  • anti-HBc
  • anti-HCV
  Blood Chemistry
  • CBC/DC
  • Blood typing
  • Albumin
  •  AST
  • ALT
  • Total and direct Bilirubin
  • Creatinine
  • INR/Protime
  • AFP Liver Ultrasound

Home from the Hospital

I was supposed to have a short vacation at my relatives' house. Mommy was excitedly packing our clothes. But then the doctor called. The blood tests result showed I've got low hemoglobin count. I need to go to the hospital. I was at the  Philippine Children Medical Center for three days. I had blood transfusions and albumin.

I am very happy still because I was still able to go on a very short vacation. We went to my relatives' house on Easter Sunday. Stayed there overnight.

I got this baby bouncer as a gift. I love it sooo much.

A Twitter Story

She tweeted. God answered.

Three weeks ago, my mom and dad received a text message from Mr Ogie Alcasid. He told them he wanted to help us. Mom was surprised. We asked my mom's godmother if she knows anything about it because she was the one who started this fundraising campaign. She said she tweeted Mr Ogie and asked if he could retweet my story to his followers.

Me and my parents were invited today by Mr and Mrs Ogie Alcasid to their home. They learned about the fundraising campaign for my liver transplant and offered us help. I also met baby Nate. He is a lucky baby because he has kindhearted parents. I am sure he will also grow up like them.

This is a gift from baby Nate. I'm so excited to play with this. I'll ask my mommy to take a picture of me.

my mom's brother, mr ogie, my mom's godmother, me and mommy,  ms regine, my daddy

They also prayed for me. I know I will be healed.

Thank you Mr Ogie Alcasid, Ms Regine V Alcasid and baby Nate.
